You can also take day tours from Pakse to nearby waterfalls. But to do the full trip you need your own transportation

Hi Marek,

I’m really enjoying your website. I’m planning a trip to Laos for December. I would like to do the 4 day loop at the Bolevan Plateau….but I’m not a motorbike person.

Is that really the only way to do that experience? And if so, can you please share why? Thank you!

That’s hard to say without knowing how much time you have on your trip, what your interests are, etc.!

For doing just Luang Prabang plus the 3-day Gibbon Experience I’d suggest a week is ideal. But you can spend many weeks in Laos.

We are flying into Luang Prabang.

Hey Josh. When Laos reopens and the Gibbon Experience is running again this will be easy to do. At the end of the experience you will be dropped off back in Huay Xai, from where you can catch a bus to Luang Namtha. I believe it takes about 4 hours. I don’t remember the cost exactly but it will surely be under $10.

You can also ask the staff if you can catch a bus from the entrance of the park. This will save you a bit of time as it’s already some ways on the road to Luang Namtha.

I am looking to do The Gibbons Experience. Once I have finished I would like to travel to Luang Namtha, how would I look at doing this? How long does it take? And how much does it cost?

Thank you,
Josh

I don’t have any intentions of travelling around the world but maybe 10 years from now I can.
Thank you for inspiring me.
Keep up the good work.

I believe there’s a max weight of 120kg. There’s also an hour or two of hiking each day (some uphill). Not the most strenuous I’ve experienced but it may be more of a challenge with a poor fitness level.
