You do need an open water diving certification which takes 2-3 days of (light) theory and practice. The good news is that the certification dives are exciting and fun and they’re very cheap in south east asia. Hugely recommended. Have fun on your trip!

They had a tiered thing where more dives meant a lower price per dive. If memory serves me right I think they cost me $50 per dive (and did 3 dives). This was a bit more than some other dive shops, but I really liked the professionality of Thresher Shark Divers
